Is Making Money Online Over-hyped?

Everywhere you turn you seem to stumble upon a carload of suggestions and advices on how to succeed at making money online. This makes one wonder about how much truth lies in such advertisements and how much is hype. It is true that there are many people who have left their regular ***s because their e-business was giving more in terms of both finance and satisfaction. However, for every success story there would be more than 10 failure stories. In this case, should the advertisements regarding the earning potential of the Internet be ignored or simply taken with a generous pinch of salt. The correct answer is, 'none of the above'.

Before I give you the answer to the above question, let me ask you a question. Can you guarantee success in any business or career in the brick and mortar world? I am confident the answer would be a sad, 'no' because you would understand by now what the point is. No business, online or offline, can ever be guaranteed success. Its success or failure greatly depend on the way you handle it. Similarly, making money online is not a myth. There are millions out there who are earning remarkable incomes through this medium. The question is whether this is the right path for you.

There are few things you should be very clear about if you are planning on embarking on an e-enterprise venture. The first and maybe the most critical thing is, understanding what the Internet is and how it functions. The virtual world is completely different from the brick-and-mortar world, and you should not venture into it until you are familiar with it. Many decide to start their e-business without even a basic understanding of the Net, which is the best and fastest formula to failure. Making money online is not a child's play as the ads say. It requires clarity of concept, hard work and above all dogged perseverance in the face of obstacles in the initial phases.

The second thing that you should be very wary about is the get-quick-rich schemes. Most people are attracted to the making money online idea because in their minds, they believe that fairy stories can come true. Very soon, they find out that such a venture would rather drain their money than earn it for them. Keep one thing very clear in your mind: "there are no free lunches in this world." You want success and wealth, be prepared to work hard and long hours. Whether you launch a business online or offline, it would require long hours of hard work before it pays you back. Be prepared to work and wait until then.

The third thing you need to pay attention to is a crash course in Internet marketing. Making money online is all about Internet marketing. You understand this concept, you know it all. You need to not only understand the concept, but also learn about the best tools you could use to market your website or blog. Your success is directly proportional on your ability to generate targeted traffic to your site; and this is possible only if you adopt the correct (Internet) marketing strategy.

Now, you know whether making money online is hyped or not.
