South Denver Residents Worried About Rash Of BurglariesDENVER -- At least five more south Denver homes are burglarized but it comes as no surprise to neighbors who say it's been happening since November.Police aren't ruling out a connection between those break-ins and a string of armed robberies near the University of Denver.Travis Menke said he can't help but feel frustrated about the break-in at his home. "They violated my space."Menke and several others who live along South Grant Street said they have been the victims of burglary in recent months."It really pissed me off," said Ann Piesczak.Piesczak said if they didn't steal it, they broke it and even enjoyed a bag of potato chips while they ransacked her home. She said besides stealing a flatscreen TV the burglars grabbed her tax forms, forcing her to flag her Social Security number every 90 days."I know at least five who have been hit," said Piesczak.Stop anyone in the neighborhood and they are likely tell you they know someone who has been robbed."We had some friends who were broken into a couple weeks ago. Kind of sad," said Tim Nelson.Residents say they are adding security systems and getting dogs. Menke said he's adding bars to the windows."I almost feel imprisoned," Menke said.One woman said the burglars were so brazen they took her husband's truck loaded with their belongings, and drove off in broad daylight.Denver police said they are concerned about the burglaries and have ***igned two detectives to the cases. They also have also sent more patrol cars to the area.But despite the beefed up police presence, the criminal or criminals remain at large.On Monday, Denver police reported that 11 homes near DU had been burglarized since Jan. 5. The burglaries in that area centered around Evans Avenue and South High Street, west of DU.
