Just woke up from my 2nd nights sleep in my Beijing Hotel (http://www.chinatraveldepot.com/CH1-Beijing-Hotels). It turned windy and cooler yesterday afternoon. I remembered from previous years that the weather always turns in mid to late October so I brought warm clothes mostly in layers for our Beijing Travel (http://www.chinatraveldepot.com/Travel-to-Beijing). Yesterday was the opening ceremonies for the new Research Center for Tibetan Buddhist Heritage located in the Palace Museum (the Forbidden City (http://www.chinatraveldepot.com/CA4-Forbidden-City)). After the opening ceremonies yesterday they opened two galleries specially prepared for the event. I have already taken over a 100 pictures at the Palace Museum. The first gallery was of sculpture and the second was paintings in another building behind the first. Remember that most of the buildings in the Imperial Palace are of a human size and not usually more than two stories tall for the ordinary building and four or five floors for the temples. The buildings of the outer walls are also defensive so they can be much taller and used for administrative offices as well. There are many familiar faces here at the conference: Ed Hunter, Rob Linrothe, Ulrich Von Schroeder, Leonard Van der Kuijp, the Neumanns, Chandra Reedy, Pat Berger, Karl Debrenicisky, Amy Heller, Mathew Kapstein, Tanaka (from Osaka) and many others. I have not yet met with the curator of the Hahn Collection in Korea but I will definitely see her this morning at the opening ceremonies for the conference. Jane (Casey) Singer will not be at the first conference but will definitely be in Beijing for the second conference which starts next Wednesday morning after the first conference ends on Tuesday. I will take china airfare (http://www.chinatraveldepot.com/ChinaFlights/) to Xi’an, going on my Travel in China (http://www.chinatraveldepot.com/).
