View Full Version : Is Blogging Effective?

The great difference between a blog and a traditional static website is interactivity and content. With a static site it’s just the viewers reading the page, but on the other hand a blog can pull in your visitor into a world of interaction. When you have a blog your visitor will be able to give feedback through a comment feature and look forward to future content. The only real problem is that to establish a profitable and highly visited blog that is capable of loyal readership it takes time and dedication. But the realistic thing about it is this goal is very possible, and not only is it possible but it could also be fun once you put things into place. So following three rules below could possibly build a blog that is worthy of repeat visitors and even fans that will definitely make your blogging experience worth the effort.
#1) Content is Key
All throughout high school and college I always devoted myself to writing for the fun of it, even to a point where many professors recommended me to be a professional writer. My point is that in order to have a successful blog of any type the content is always key. You must be able to write good content that attracts and sucks in your reader so you can not only create repeat visits but a loyal fan base. So if your content is less than average, there is no way people are going to return or read again, and in this internet age there are millions of other blogs that are waiting for a friendly click. The good news is that you don’t have to be a good writer and neither do you have to pay close attention to perfect grammar and spelling; this isn’t English Class. Nevertheless, the success factor is that you write interesting content that is able to surpass any grammatical errors. This can be done by giving your real thoughts and opinions on a subject or certain niche.
In addition, the more people that like your content the higher the chance they will link to you, and the more people that link to you the higher your ranking in Google will be. Thus, great content will ultimately expand your readership and fan base to unimaginable levels if you put in the effort.
#2) Open to Comments
Just by surfing the web casually today could take you into an ocean filled with blogs, but the sad part is many of these blogs have the comment section closed. Closing the comment box is the worst mistake you can do in regards to blogs. Many reasons bloggers may close the comment box is to avoid spammers, but although it can be a lot of work to get rid of spammers it is taking out what bloggers are all about. The entire idea of writing blogs is having a public audience that can write back and speak their minds. An internet without people speaking their minds and giving “2” cents on a particular topic is a dead internet in today’s world. Youtube, Myspace, Twitter, and the world of social media have opened a vast outlet of communication that has no end in sight. If people can contribute to the topic by building conversations between each other and with yourself; the blogger, then this is a sign that you are on the way for a much larger and interested following. Since people will not always agree with your blog there is a possibility that a dispute can arise, and disputes are mostly storms of thought and opinion; thus attracting curiosity to the dispute and blog alike from many people.
#3) Guest Blogger
Using mass traffic from well liked blogs is another way to increase blog success and gain exposure online. If there is a great blog in your niche that is liked and commented on by many individuals, then this means you could use the traffic. Writing to the owner of the blog and asking to write guest posts can help to establish a relationship. By asking the writer to guest post you can initiate a relationship where that blogger will be more than likely willing to let you guest post and give you a link back to your blog. Of course, this will increase your traffic and rankings in the search engines, but it will also enable you to “borrow” readers to add to a future fan base.
In short, blogging is a great for any internet marketing business. It can be that interactive exposure with the reader and average person that will provide your business with credibility and a human voice. The process of learning how to create loyal readership is extremely important in that succeeding with it will determine whether your blog survives or thrives.

The quality of leads from blogging is of high quality when the content is substantial and what readers want to read. In addition, when working with an online marketing firm, they help not only create effective content but they also promote it in all the correct ways gaining more visibility and brand awareness.

Input your blog address and wait about a minute for the results generation. What you will see once the analysis has been completed includes an embeddable “Blog Grade” badge, a very large “Tweet” button and an analysis breakdown of (5) main categories: Grade Summary, Blog Subscribability, Article Engagement, Search Engine Findability and Blog Content.

I would like to add some keys on effective blogging. Though your tips are good, keeping your post simple would be good for your blog. It doesn't have to be long, as long as its interesting, it would be good.

Every time you sit down to write, remind yourself that there are a trillion other websites out there competing for attention. Then remind yourself how little time you have these days to spend reading the news, books, all your friends’ Tweets and Facebook status messages and blog posts. Got it? In that moment, ask yourself honestly whether you’d spend time reading a 10,000 word blog post about your cat.

People invest their time reading posts that educate and enlighten, or organize complex information, or bust myths or provide pointers to great resources. Internet users have evolved into ultra-savvy scanners when it comes to web content, and they’re insanely good at figuring out whether there’s something in it for them in under 10 seconds.
fati102
07-10-2011, 06:39 PM
If they don’t get the immediate impression that what you’ve written is useful or entertaining, they’ll leave and go somewhere else. Web time is “me time” for readers. So write stuff that other people will find useful, and save the stories about your cat for your mom.
sana12
07-10-2011, 06:40 PM
We all want to get noticed for what we’re doing. It feels great when people read your stuff, and give you recognition for your penmanship and your ideas. But nothing turns people off more quickly than when you try and tell them how much of a mind-grenade you think your latest post is.

Writing for the web isn’t like writing an essay or a dissertation. That goes for business blogging as well. Always write the way that you speak. Let your personality and unique voice come out in your writing, and be conversational.
fati102
07-10-2011, 06:47 PM
Swear if you like if it’s how you talk with your friends. Just be yourself. Your readers value authenticity. They want to know you’re a real person just like them. If you sound like an academic reading a dissertation, it’ll turn people off. Besides, if you can’t explain things simply, you probably don’t understand them well enough to be writing about them anyway. So put down the thesaurus and write with the voice that your friends and family are used to.

Blogging is about creating conversations and building relationships. The magic happens when your writing resonates with people on an intellectual and an emotional level that makes them feel like they’ve suddenly found someone that likes what they like, that feels the way they feel and that they want to talk to. Life-long friendships are built this way, one person at at time. So are readerships.

I have heard so many top bloggers say you have to post every day to be successful. OK, yeah, if you want a readership in the hundreds of thousands a month and you want to turn your blog into a full-time career, yeah, you do. But let’s get real. 99.7% of us don’t have time for that. We have businesses to run, families to take care of, and day to day stuff we need to accomplish just to keep our heads above water.

Take A Long Term Approach, Own Your Name, Build Your Own Long-Tail
When I started blogging 2 years ago, a Google search for my name got 11 hits. The information was thin – just my name on a few pages from my high school’s newspaper that had been posted online, a link to my Facebook account and some candid photos that a friend put on Kodak’s slide share of me driving a beat up Nissan Sunny. That same search today will yield over 114,000 hits thanks to blogging and social media.

Don’t Worry About Finding The Perfect Domain Name And Title For Your Blog. Just Use Your Name. The number one hangup that seems to stop novice bloggers in their tracks is that they feel that before they get started, they need an awesome blog name.
fati102

Good bloggers don’t just happen. Most emerge over time as they develop skills and attitudes that combine in ways that improve their blogging. Some of these habits seem to come pretty naturally but many need to be practised and intentionally worked upon.
sana12
07-11-2011, 11:20 AM
I’ll start by saying that each successful blogger will have their own list of habits and rhythms that increase their success depending upon factors like personality type, style of blogging, topic of blogs, goals of blogs etc.
kashi26
07-11-2011, 11:20 AM
One of the things I’ve noticed about blogging is that there are a lot of bloggers who talk a lot about the things that they are going to do with their blogging who never do much (if anything) of it and then there are a smaller group of bloggers who actually do what they say they’ll do.
fati102
07-11-2011, 11:22 AM
The first group habitually have lots of dreams and little follow through and the second group habitually take initiative and actually put their money where their mouth is to see where their dreams lead them.
kashi26
07-11-2011, 11:22 AM
It’s these proactive bloggers who tend to find success more often than the habitual dreamers. I guess it makes sense really – if you actually do something you’ve got more chance of succeeding at it than if you just dream of it.
sana12
07-11-2011, 11:23 AM
I don’t know of anyone who’s ever succeeded just by the dreams that they have without taking action.Successful bloggers are action oriented, they’re self starters and they’re willing to take their dreams into reality.
fati102
07-11-2011, 11:24 AM
successful bloggers don’t become successful by accident.
Actually I should qualify that statement. I know of some bloggers who have become quite successful by accident – but very few have sustained their success over time without putting some thought into how to keep things going it.
kashi26
07-11-2011, 11:25 AM
Perhaps a better statement would be ‘Bloggers who have ongoing success generally know where they are headed and have a way to get there‘.
sana12
07-11-2011, 11:25 AM
Of course strategy might be a formal well thought out long term strategic plan – or it could just be an informal set of ‘next steps’ in their mind. Whether or not it’s formal or informal there is some level of planning going on in the lives of most effective bloggers.
fati102
07-11-2011, 11:26 AM
This is increasingly the case as the numbers of blogs continue to increase dramatically and the competition for attention of web uses increases. Planning on how to stand out from the crowd, how to find readers, how to sustain the writing of content over the long haul etc are all factors worth doing some planning around.
kashi26
07-11-2011, 11:27 AM
successful bloggers look forward and let what they see determine their present activities. A habit that I work hard at consciously building into my blogging activities is to intentionally keep an eye on the niches that I’m involved in and anticipate where they are headed next.
sana12
07-11-2011, 11:28 AM
I find that there are constant opportunities and possibilities within most niches for those that look for them.
fati102
07-11-2011, 11:28 AM
This happens on both a small picture and big picture level and can range from writing posts a few weeks ahead of events to capitalise on search engine traffic to anticipating new trends that might be ideal topics for new blogs.
kashi26
07-11-2011, 11:29 AM
It is also worth keeping an eye on emerging trends in blogging and new media as there are plenty of opportunities to take in terms of how you communicate that are worth being ready for also.
sana12
07-11-2011, 11:30 AM
successful bloggers have a knack for seeing things outside of their sphere of interest that they draw on to improve their blogs. They are often veracious consumers of information in many forms and have the ability to keep their minds across many different fields at once.
fati102
07-11-2011, 11:30 AM
The world we live in is in a state of constant change and unless you’re on top of the changes happening around you a blogger can be quickly left behind.
kashi26
07-11-2011, 11:31 AM
successful bloggers are effective communicators blogs are used for many different things blogging is at its heart essentially a communication tool (and predominantly is a written communication tool at present – although this is changing).
sana12
07-11-2011, 11:32 AM
As a result of this most successful bloggers have some level of communication skills. They know how to write and more importantly know (either instinctively of by going out of their way to learn) some of the basics principles of how people learn, read and receive information online.
fati102
07-11-2011, 11:33 AM
There are of course many different styles of communication and I’m not advocating any one of them but successful bloggers tend to have a knack of putting across their message in a way that is received well.
sana12
07-11-2011, 11:37 AM
successful bloggers give their readers something that they need The blogosphere is filled with millions of blogs, many of which that talk almost aimlessly about anything and everything associated with a given topic.
fati102
07-11-2011, 11:42 AM
They often are very reactionary to what others are writing and in many instances aimlessly recycle other people’s content in a way that adds no real value to readers.
kashi26
07-11-2011, 11:42 AM
Effectively bloggers attract readers because they offer them content that is useful and they meet a need of their readers. This need can be a need for information, a need for someone else’s opinion, a need for entertainment, a need for instruction, a need for community etc.
sana12
07-11-2011, 11:45 AM
Good bloggers tap into one or more of their readers needs and work hard at being a part of a solution. Not only is their content useful but in many cases it is looked at by others as being original and something that makes them a ‘thought leader’ in their niche rather than just a recycler of what others are saying.
fati102
07-11-2011, 11:47 AM
I’m not saying that reacting to or recycling what others say and write is always bad or second class – but unless a blogger adds some value to what others are saying then they are less likely to give their readers anything unique or useful that they can’t get elsewhere.
sana12
07-11-2011, 11:50 AM
I’ve said it once and I’ll continue to say it – blogs rarely become successful without hard work over a sustained period of time.
kashi26
07-11-2011, 11:53 AM
most successful bloggers put in a lot of hard work behind the scenes over significant time. Much of the work is behind the scenes in reading, networking, researching and looking after readers in a similar way to the many hours of practice a tennis player puts in before the few hours they play in a public forum.
fati102
07-11-2011, 11:54 AM
This calls for self discipline and the ability to put aside regular time. As we all know in the busy world we live in, this doesn’t just happen. It’s a habit that most of us need to practice.
sana12
07-11-2011, 11:55 AM
successful bloggers turn threats and weaknesses into opportunities and strengths
From my study of marketing a decade or more ago I remember very little but one of the things that’s stuck is the lesson one lecturer gave of SWOT analysis (the analysis of a business or venture by looking at Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats).
kashi26
07-11-2011, 11:55 AM
. The line that sticks out from these lessons is that good marketers learn to see ‘weaknesses and threats as possible strengths and opportunities’.
fati102
07-11-2011, 11:56 AM
Many bloggers give up when blogging gets tough – but successful bloggers tend to go forward in leaps and bounds in these times as they find creative ways to flip those things that could crush them into things that bring life.
sana12
07-11-2011, 11:57 AM
initiate and facilitate conversations One of the metaphors for blogging that I’ve been pondering lately is bloggers as conductors of a symphony (bear with me – I’m not sure where the image came from – but it’s stuck in my mind for some reason).
kashi26
07-11-2011, 11:58 AM
Good conductors have the ability to draw together many musicians of different varieties and blend them together in a way that produces something wonderful.
fati102
07-11-2011, 11:59 AM
Good bloggers take the ideas, experiences and voices of their readers (and other bloggers) and create spaces where these ideas come together in a way to makes ‘music’.
sana12
07-11-2011, 12:01 PM
but an effective blogger often has the ability to bring something of worth out of the babble of noice happening in their niche.
fati102
07-11-2011, 12:02 PM
Extending upon the metaphor of a blogger as a conductor comes the observation that many successful seem to go out of their way to work with other bloggers.
kashi26
07-11-2011, 12:02 PM
This happens on a variety of levels ranging from the informal and unorganised linking that bloggers do among themselves through to formal networks and partnerships that many bloggers are now arranging amongst themselves.

One of the reasons blogging has taken off as it has is as a result of it’s relational nature – bloggers who work with this strength of blogging stand to gain a lot as a result.

Associated with this strategic nature of many successful bloggers is that they know not only what they do blog about but also what they do not blog about.

Most successful blogs that I’m aware of have a range of ‘boundaries’ which associate both with the topic or niche that they cover but also boundaries around how personal they’ll get and what ethics they operate within as they blog.

With such boundaries established (and it’s rarely a formal set of boundaries) a blogger has a framework to move forward with.

A blog can be a website on its own or it can be a part of another website.Build your link popularity. Link popularity is determined by the number of and quality of website that have linked to your website.Begin the body of your page with your keyword phrase and repeat it as necessary throughout the page.

Get Real Familiar with the Topic
Let’s face it. Most online entrepreneurs hire ghost writers to blog for them and most bloggers do not really own the website that they are writing about.
If you are one of the latter, you need to know everything about the product or service being offered to the public – as if you own it. You really would not be able to come up with anything interesting if you are just writing for the sake of getting paid.
