Here are some on page factors you should consider.

-Title tag should contain your keywords
-Keywords should have H1 tags or H2 tags

From my experience the best 2 ways are through building good quality, related links. And through onsite SEO. Make sure your updating content regularly, and try changing the percentage of keywords you are using. There are sites you can use to check your Keyword statistics and your Alt tags etc.
