Lemierre's Disease
This disease begins with a very heavy sore throat and leads to a fever, swollen glands together with a feeling of being unwell.
Soar throat patients should be treated with antibiotics. If they are not so treated it develops to the killer disease called Lemierre’s disease. Generally doctors do not prescribe antibiotic because of increasing drug resistance and this leads to a significant rise in the number of cases of Lemierre’s disease.
Fusobactenum necrophorum, a bactenium that lives harmlessly in the mouth of the people is found to be the cause of this disease; however it is not known why and how this bactenium causes this disease.
Lemierre’s disease most commonly attacks young men, aged between 16 and 23, even though they were healthy, previously. It causes a serious illness requiring hospitalization, and may prove fatal if left untreated.
