Web host migration tip
I am due to move to a new web host. The transfer will definitely cause some disruption on my site uptime. What should be the best scheme to enable me to reduce site downtime as a result of the transfer?
Thanks for your help !

Hi,
A decent transfer would not cause any downtime in stastics as your website would be up on server 1 then after propergation would hop to server 2 (Best I can explain :P).
So what you can do, is on server 1 put a index.htm page saying your changing hosts, that way your visitors know your moving hosts and your uptime stays at 100% or where ever it is now.

All the tips mentioned above are all useful. There is an important requirement, which I think has been neglected. That you must not cut or not close your old account until you are sure everything works well on your new host.

I believe that you should find the best company that will be helpful to transfer all your files to them.
There are many web hosts available, so choose the best one.

Re: Web host migration tip
The tips for web host migration are like you should make the schedule for the migration. You should check the traffic to your website when you migrate your hosting. You should inform to the users who are interested in your website. You need to take the back up of all files, images and scripts on the CD or DVD before the migration. You should know all things about the new hosting. After the migration you should check the website on the new hosting website. By doing lot of tests check all the forms are working or not.

Best hosting companies provide back-up of complete website and one need to be sure that they have beck-up of server settings and directories that are required for website working.
