DVD
Shield of Retribution feels less like a normal ranged setup and more like a controlled collision. The key is Blessed Shield with the Shield of Retribution upgrade, which sends out slow discs that linger around enemies, pulse Thorns damage, and then burst. You are not chasing weapon damage here. You are building a Paladin who can stand near danger, take a hit, and turn that pressure into area damage. When planning your gear, compare useful D4 items carefully, especially anything that raises Thorns, Life, or Block Chance.
Why Resolve Matters So Much
The Juggernaut Oath is the engine behind the build. Each time you cast a Juggernaut skill, Resolve is spent to increase its damage and size. That sounds simple, but the Oath also changes how Resolve behaves. Your minimum Resolve rises, and enemy hits no longer strip away the stacks you need. In practice, this gives you a reliable damage window instead of forcing you to wait for the perfect moment. Keep your positioning steady, let the discs travel through the pack, and resist the urge to rush between casts.
Core Gear and the Cost of Power
Mantle of the Grey pushes the Oath much further by allowing more Resolve stacks to be consumed at once. The payoff is a stronger multiplier and larger Juggernaut skills. Blood-Mad Idol adds permanent Berserking, but it also puts constant strain on your health and Fortify. Arcadia helps smooth that problem out. Rally supplies Fortify, and restoring enough Life can return a Rally charge. This creates a rhythm of damage, recovery, and protection. Without that rhythm, the amulet's benefits can feel more like a burden than an advantage.
Stat Priorities and Skill Roles
A practical comparison looks like this: Thorns - primary damage scaling; Block Chance - defence and critical damage support; Maximum Life - stronger survival and better Rally value; Fortify - protection against the amulet's drain; Critical Strike Chance - more reliable burst windows. Clash with Punishment should be used often, not saved for rare moments, because its Thorns increase is too valuable to waste. Rally keeps the defensive loop moving, while Ward of the White Dove rewards mixing Blessed Shield with another ability instead of repeating one button endlessly.
How to Play the Rotation
Shield of Retribution works best from close to midrange. Its reduced reach means you need to guide enemies into the path of the discs. Start with Clash, then cast Blessed Shield three times. Weave in an Aura or defensive skill, and repeat when the timing feels right. Watch the enemy movement rather than standing still and hoping every pulse connects. Aspect of Redirected Force turns Block Chance into Critical Strike Damage, with a stronger bonus after a successful block. The Penitent's Aspect adds more critical power when your health is being spent. With the right balance, you can buy D4 items buy options that support the build without sacrificing the defensive stats that keep its aggressive playstyle under control.
