A thermal power plant is a type of power station that converts heat energy into electrical energy. It does this by using a steam-generating cycle, in which heat is used to boil water in a large pressure vessel to produce high-pressure steam. This steam then drives a steam turbine, which is connected to an electrical generator. The generator converts the mechanical energy of the turbine into electrical energy. The steam that exits the turbine is low-pressure and is cooled in a condenser, where it turns back into water. This water is then pumped back into the boiler to start the cycle over again. Thermal power plants can use a variety of fuels, including coal, natural gas, and nuclear fuel.
