The Live Series Collection still has star power, but its value looks different once the game has been out for a while. By July, you're not just chasing Judge, Ohtani, or the three 99-rated rewards. You're weighing them against all the cards released through programs, packs, events, and ranked rewards. If you're thinking about spending MLB 26 stubs on the missing pieces, take a minute first. A big-name collection card is nice, sure, but it isn't automatically the best use of your budget anymore.
Check where you stand first
The rough cost for all 30 teams is around three million Stubs, though the number shifts with roster updates and market swings. That's a huge climb if you're starting from scratch. Before buying anything, make a simple check: 1. Count how many expensive Live Series diamonds you still need. 2. Add up their current buy-now prices. 3. Compare that total with the cards you could get from active programs instead. Players often see one missing division and think they're close, then discover they still need several pricey players. Don't let the collection screen fool you. It can get expensive in a hurry.
Why the timing matters
Midseason content changes the whole conversation. New drops arrive constantly, and many of them can play just as well as collection rewards without requiring every Live Series card. You may find a strong outfielder, a power bat, or a reliable starter through a program that takes a few evenings rather than months of market work. Older cards also tend to fall in price when fresh content lands. That makes it harder to justify a massive collection push solely for lineup improvement. For a lot of players, there's simply more fun in trying new cards than locking every Stub into one long-term project.
When finishing makes sense
It's a different story if you've already cleared more than half the teams. At that point, stopping can feel worse than pressing on, especially if most of the costly cards are already in your binder. The end rewards are still excellent. Felix Hernandez has the stuff to remain a top-tier starter, while Troy Tulowitzki and Albert Pujols offer the kind of bats that don't become useless after one content update. You're also earning team and division rewards along the way, so the final stretch isn't just about one card. If the remaining cost feels manageable, finishing is a reasonable call.
Spend with a plan
For newer players or anyone sitting well below the halfway mark, patience is probably the smarter play. Build a competitive squad through current content, keep an eye on market dips, and only buy collection pieces when they fit your wider plan. There's no need to force the grind because someone else has completed it. Picking up cheap MLB 26 stubs may help cover a specific gap, but it won't change the basic math of a collection that still demands a major investment. The Live Series route works best when you're already close, not when you're chasing it from the starting line.
