Toys - Games - Hobbies
Your opening choice in Pokémon TCG Pocket feels small, but it does shape your first few days. If you're starting fresh, or even comparing early options with Pokemon TCG Pocket Accounts, the first thing to understand is this: the Genetic Apex pack you pick affects both the cards you can pull right away and the starter deck you're handed. That doesn't lock your account forever, of course. The game gives out plenty of Pack Hourglasses early on, so you'll be opening more packs fast. Still, a smart first pick saves you a bit of pain, especially if you want a deck that can actually win games without needing ten perfect pulls.
Why Charizard is still the safest Genetic Apex start
Among the three original Genetic Apex choices, the Charizard pack is still the one I'd point most new players toward. Not because Charizard ex is the only prize, though it's nice to have. The real reason is Exeggutor ex. It's simple, sturdy, and has shown up in plenty of playable lists. You can build around it without feeling like you're missing half the deck. The same pack also gives you a path toward Erika, Sabrina, Moltres ex, the Greninja line, and even the budget Blaine package. That's a lot of useful stuff in one place. Pikachu has a clear deck too, and Misty can be great, but it's a narrower start. Mewtwo used to be the flexible pick, but the game has moved on quite a bit.
What to do before spending all your Hourglasses
Don't rush and burn every resource after opening one lucky card. Make your first Wonder Pick, clear the beginner missions, and keep an eye on what the game is giving you. Early levels come quickly, and every level means more chances to open packs. You'll probably get through a dozen boosters sooner than expected. At that point, your direction may change. Maybe you pull Darkrai ex and suddenly Dialga packs look better. Maybe you open Giratina ex and Shining Revelry becomes the obvious lane. That's why the first pack matters, but it isn't the whole story. You're building momentum, not signing a contract.
Current pack value for new players
Right now, the strongest beginner targets sit outside the original Genetic Apex set. Extradimensional Crisis is excellent because Buzzwole ex, Guzzlord ex, and Silvally all give you real competitive angles. Shining Revelry is also hard to ignore thanks to Giratina ex, Red, Meowscarada, and other solid ex options. Space-Time Smackdown's Dialga pack is another top pick, with Darkrai ex, Rampardos, Dialga ex, Gallade ex, Lucario, Giant Cape, Pokémon Communication, and Dawn. Palkia's pack is still good too, mostly because Cyrus is one of the best gust-style cards in the game. Celestial Guardians has value through Rare Candy, Solgaleo ex, Decidueye ex, Lillie, Tapu Lele, and Guzma. Eevee Grove earns its spot because Sylveon ex helps so many decks draw cards.
A practical pick order
If you're choosing only from the three Genetic Apex starters, take Charizard first, then consider Pikachu, with Mewtwo sitting last for most beginners. If you're deciding where to spend packs after that, look at Extradimensional Crisis, Shining Revelry, and Dialga from Space-Time Smackdown before older sets. Players browsing Pokemon TCG Pocket Accounts for sale should check which of these key cards are already collected, because a few staples can change the account's value a lot. Build toward one real deck first, then branch out once your trainer cards and support Pokémon are in place.
