U4GM Explores Refuge of the Lost in Diablo 4 Arcola

  Video Games - Consoles

If you're chasing better gem upgrades in Diablo 4 Season 15, Hell's Legacy, start with the encounter you're repeating, not just the gear you're wearing. Refuge of the Lost, in Skovos's Athanos region, puts two bosses at the end of one run: the Galvanized Mauler and the Molten Conjurer. That's the appeal. For players sorting through D4 items and planning their next equipment upgrades, this dungeon offers a focused route toward Grand Gems. You won't get the same reward every time, though. Royal Gems can turn up instead, so judge the route across several runs rather than one lucky clear.

Why the Warlock changes the route

The Warlock's advantage here isn't simply damage. It's how much of the dungeon you can leave behind. Normally, you're asked to clear enemies in the first section, then release prisoners in the second before reaching the boss arena. Those jobs take time, especially when a stray enemy sends you back through rooms you've already visited. Rampage provides the shortcut described for this route: move close to a locked gate and activate the skill to pass through. Repeat at the next gate. Other classes can finish the dungeon, but they don't have this particular way of cutting out the preliminary objectives.

Keep each run simple

Once you've learned the layout, resist the urge to turn every attempt into a full clear. Head for the gates, use Rampage at each barrier, and make your way to the two bosses. Your goal is a repeatable loop, not a perfect sweep of every corridor. A little preparation helps keep the routine tidy.

Leave enough inventory space before entering.
Place a custom map marker when you reach the boss arena.
Collect your rewards, leave the dungeon, then reset through the map interface.

Watch the rewards, not the stopwatch alone

A fast clear feels good, but speed only matters if you're actually collecting the materials you need. Check the drops after both bosses fall. Grand Gems are the target; Royal Gems are a possible outcome, not proof that you've taken the wrong route. The map marker gives you a familiar reference when finding your way out on later attempts. Once the movement becomes routine, you can spend less time checking directions and more time repeating the encounter. Don't build your expectations around a guaranteed Grand Gem on every visit.

Turn your stockpile into upgrades

The crafting arithmetic is worth keeping in mind before you start. At the Horadric Cube, five Grand Gems become one Horadric Gem, and five Horadric Gems become one Flawless Horadric Gem. That means twenty-five Grand Gems for the full chain. If you're also looking to buy cheap D4 items, keep that separate from your gem target so you know what still needs gathering. Set a manageable crafting goal, run the dungeon loop, and check your stockpile between sessions. Small, steady batches are easier to track than an open-ended grind.
