The best pain relief oil is the one that actually deals with your pain. Stiff knees and a pulled-back muscle won't need the same bottle.
For joint pain, look for Nirgundi, Shallaki, Rasna, Saunth, and Mahanarayan. These are traditionally used for stiffness and inflammation. For quick muscle relief, oils with wintergreen, camphor, mint, or eucalyptus give a fast warming or cooling feel. Many people with mixed pain do well with a blend of both types.
Make sure to check the base too. Sesame oil usually carries herbs deeper than light oils. Avoid heavy synthetic fragrance, and prefer a label that names its herbs rather than saying “herbal blend.”
Warm the pain oil slightly and massage for 5 to 10 minutes. For chronic joint pain, night-time use works well. Do a patch test first, and avoid broken or irritated skin.
Oil eases discomfort but does not fix arthritis or a slipped disc. Swelling, numbness, or pain that lingers for weeks needs a doctor.
