Knee pain on the stairs and a sore shoulder after carrying heavy bags aren’t the same problem. So the best pain relief oil depends on where it actually hurts.
For stiff, aching joints, look for nirgundi, shallaki, rasna, saunth, or mahanarayan. For quick relief, wintergreen, camphor, mint, and eucalyptus can give you that instant warm or cool feeling, while turmeric may help with inflammation.
Don’t ignore the base. Sesame oil usually sinks in deeper than thin, light oils. Pick a label that names its herbs and shows an AYUSH license number, and skip anything that smells like strong perfume.
Warm the pain oil a little, then massage for 5 to 10 minutes with firm circles. For chronic knee pain, night-time works well, because the oil gets hours to settle. Use it regularly, not only when the pain flares up.
Make sure to patch test first, and keep it off broken or irritated skin.
Swelling, redness, numbness, or pain lasting more than a few weeks needs a doctor.
