Fibroid pain during pregnancy is a common symptom for many women with uterine fibroids. Fibroids can grow due to increased hormone levels and may press on organs, causing pelvic, abdominal, or lower back pain that can range from dull discomfort to sharp cramps. Larger fibroids (especially over about 5 cm) are more likely to cause significant pain, particularly in the second and third trimesters. Pain may also result if a fibroid outgrows its blood supply and degenerates, a process that can be quite painful. While many pregnant women with fibroids still have healthy pregnancies, persistent or severe pain should be discussed with a healthcare provider.
