Herniated disc pain areas can vary depending on which part of the spine is affected. A herniated or slipped disc happens when the soft inner portion of a spinal disc pushes through the outer layer and presses on nearby nerves. In lower back cases, pain commonly spreads to the buttocks, thighs, calves, legs, or feet and may also cause sciatica, tingling, numbness, or weakness. When the herniated disc occurs in the neck, pain may radiate to the shoulders, arms, or hands. Symptoms often worsen during sitting, bending, coughing, lifting, or prolonged movement. Early diagnosis through physical examination and MRI scans can help identify nerve compression and prevent worsening pain or mobility issues.
