If you want to remove render from brick, the main challenge is taking off the existing coating without chipping, cracking, or excessively eroding the brick underneath. The best method depends on how firmly the render is attached and the condition of the masonry. Start by testing a small, inconspicuous section. A brick bolster and club hammer can sometimes remove loose render effectively. Hold the bolster at a shallow angle and work carefully rather than striking directly into the brick. For stubborn areas, a small masonry chisel can help break the render into manageable sections. Avoid attacking the wall aggressively with power tools. Angle grinders and heavy breakers can remove brick faces along with the render, leaving permanent marks.
