The Roopkund trek route is an adventurous trip in the Himalayas at high altitude to the confining Roopkund Lake located under the two peaks of Trishul and Nanda Ghunti in Uttarakhand. This path passes through oak forest, rhododendron forest, then wide alpine fields of Ali Bugyal and Bedni Bugyal. After 4,500 m this ascent is steep, rocky and exposed until the glacial lake at 5,029 m. Conditions here can vary dramatically with the weather; there's a need for warm, waterproof clothing, good trekking shoes, sun protection and necessary medicines. Be sure to follow the trail only where it is marked and follow the guidance of the guide and carry out acclimatisation at specific camps. If you have serious symptoms of altitude (AHA) – the headache, dizziness, nausea or breathlessness is severe – head home immediately.
