I’ve been talking to a few procurement folks lately and noticing some recurring themes as we head into 2026. Part of this comes from conversations with teams using different digital procurement platforms (including work I’ve seen around Zycus’ Source-to-Pay and analytics tools), and part from general industry chatter. Curious how much of this lines up with what others are seeing in the real world.
A few trends that keep coming up:
AI in sourcing: More tools claiming to automate bid evaluations, supplier comparisons, and even negotiation scenarios. In practice, it seems mixed some teams are using AI for shortlisting or analysis, others still don’t fully trust it.
End-to-end digital procurement: There’s a big push to connect sourcing, contracts, and payments instead of running everything in disconnected tools. The goal seems to be visibility and fewer manual handoffs, but integration is still a pain in many orgs.
Supplier collaboration: Relationships are shifting from purely transactional to more ongoing collaboration (performance tracking, risk visibility, faster communication). This seems especially important with all the supply chain volatility.
ESG & compliance: Sustainability and supplier compliance are no longer “nice to have,” but actually showing up in sourcing decisions and audits.
Better spend visibility: Teams want cleaner data and more predictive insights to spot risks or savings earlier, rather than reacting after the fact.
What I’m trying to figure out is:
Are AI and automation actually delivering value in sourcing today?
Where are teams still relying heavily on manual processes?
What’s turned out to be more hype than reality?
Would love to hear real experiences what’s working, what isn’t, and what you’d avoid if you were starting over.
